Welcome to d blog, also known as Dan's rant. The content herein is essentially
comprised of miscellaneous ramblings and random thoughts on the nature of
contemporary existence.
America specializes in making the unaceptable, palatable.
There are things that should make us stand up and say, “This Is Unacceptable” but we don’t. There is the state of domestic healthcare, education and unemployment. There has got to be a better way.
Gitmo Nation, suddenly we find ourselves agents of torture, spreaders of despair. We have become carriers of oppression and hopelessness. Reviled internationally, is this who we want to be?
If we are to be the international police, are we to act only when the issue may affect oil production? Why do we allow Darfur? This is unacceptable.
I believe that the most important issue before us today is the question of what type of society we want to live in. I want to live in an enlightened, egalitarian and compassionate society where the best of us contribute towards the care of the least of us and no one gets left by the wayside.
McCain and Palin are too caught up in the absolute correctness of their Christian Ethic to accept even the possibility that any other point of view may carry within its doctrine some valuable and actionable insights. In similar fashion to the campaigns of four and eight years ago the Republican hate platform has so fueled their anger machine as to make their rallies, (really performances) displays of some of the most un Christian like behavior. Seen since the Roman occupation of the Holy Land!.
The only Hope that McCain’s constantly morphing positions engender is the Hope that somewhere within his ancient mechanism the synapses allow for the occasional prudent decision.
A case has been made comparing the societal effect of the US Television Industry and sitcoms in particular to European (British) Drinking excesses. The upshot of the theory is that watching TV and Drinking both act as relief valves for the masses helping them adjust to the pressures and challenges of the modern world. Apparently the dehumanizing speed and other oppressive characteristics of our contemporary culture take some getting used to. I have long thought that the chief purpose of commercial mass media was propaganda, to get people used to new concepts in the new world order. 1975’s Rollerball with James Caan and John Houseman foreshadows a unified world government and economic system run by corporations. Recently Geena Davis Starred as The US President in ABC’s “Commander In Chief”. In the drama Davis portrays a surprise Vice Presidential pick who becomes President after her boss’s untimely death. Holy Shades of Palin ! What would we think of this series today?
