Welcome to d blog, also known as Dan's rant. The content herein is essentially
comprised of miscellaneous ramblings and random thoughts on the nature of
contemporary existence.
Professor Gates had it right the first time. I'm sure Sgt Crowley overstepped the bounds of sensibility, (as ALL policemen are want to do), by placing unspoken demands of deference upon the good professor. However, it's not necessarily a racial thing. I'm sure the quantity and extent of police abuses are exasperated by racial issues but as the Caucasian son of a Caucasian attorney from NYC, I pushed the bounds of public behavior in my youth and I can speak first hand as to the demeanor of policemen, who demand worshipful comportment not altogether different than the mortals are forced to show towards the gods on the Stargate SG-1 TV series.
In the lore of the Beyer Clan my parents recount the story of the car ride that took place as my Dad was rushing to the hospital so Mom could give birth to my younger brother. The policeman pulled them over and according to Mom the brutish rudeness in blue demanded she get out of the vehicle so that he could inspect her pregnant condition. Eventually they arrived at the hospital and subsequent to verifying Mom's condition as well as her appointment, the cop dragged my Dad off to jail. In court the officer testified,"And I said to Mrs. Beyer, are you in pain dear?" So much for the veracity of the men in blue.
Disturbance and Nuisance Laws such as Professor Gates had applied towards him in his own home, exist to allow Policemen to arrest anyone for anything at anytime. The private citizen cannot win in the street.
Discretion is always the better part of valor when dealing with the cops, unless you WANT your day in court, where the house usually favors the right arm of the law, the police. Yes Officer, No Officer. I was mistaken Officer. How can I help Officer? These are the only type of responses that may result in allowing one to proceed on their merry way.
The Police take their cues from the FEDS. Why should local cops be any different from our Federal Government that deceives us on a constant and daily basis. The "Recession" has been an enormous "Pump N' Dump" allowing the well placed elite to take their profits. Admittedly this is a constant occurrence, where the Savvy know that Wall Street is a "FIXED" Game where the house always wins. However what is occurring now is a generational correction allowing economic power consolidation the likes of which were only hinted at a century ago.
The spin doctors are still hard at work trying to spread the perception that the Government is hard at work protecting the public interest. Nothing could be further from the truth. Government Regulators, such as they are are no match for their adversaries in private sector. More to the point, at their retirement, the regulators want to be hired by those they supposedly regulate. Is this any way to run an Airline?
