"Beware The Ides Of March"

Saturday 15 March 2008 by Dan Beyer

Live By The Sword, Die By The Sword

Say It Ain’t So Eliot. I am a proud New Yorker. I was proud to have a white hat gunslinger such as you, Mr. Spitzer running New York. Your presence announced to the world that there is something better and it’s in New York. With you in charge Eliot I could live a transplanted life in Fort Lauderdale with a clear conscience. I hadn’t thought of it in this way but indeed I was enabled. I was also enabled to proudly roam the planet at will because of the very existence of the World Trade Centers. Once upon a time it was a subliminal empowerment that I wasn’t consciously aware of. Then came that awful, awful day. Eliot, your fall from grace has felt like a disembowelment. I despair. In much the same way that my heart sunk and I felt some part of my soul melt down through my legs and drain out the bottoms of my feet while watching the planes crash into the World Trade Center on 9/11. An overwhelming sadness blanketed my thoughts while watching your wife age just as she stood by your side at the podium where you apologized to the world for straying from the hero’s path. I don't know if anything will ever be the same. Loss of innocence is one thing but this is getting ridiculous.

It feels as if there is no one left to save us and of the contenders, they are all corrupt. It may be that the horrific cloud of financial doom and gloom that hovers over our society is a self fulfilling prophecy rooted in our own psychology. There may be an underlying reality, just as surely as our Iraqi involvement has led to the instability of the US economy while simultaneously bolstering Chinas growing economy the mass psychology of the Zeitgeist empowers the current Crisis of Confidence.

Reading about the Bear Stearns debacle I can't help but run a head movie of the scene from It's A Wonderful Life where the town makes a run on the savings and loan. The imagery is further reinforced when I read that middle east clients are currently withdrawing 1/2 trillion dollars from US accounts and transferring their holdings to Chinese institutions. Scary!

A direct link exists, a line can be drawn, don’t doubt the correlation. Know ye from whom this comes. Learn ye from the mistakes and the error of those ways.

We knew it was coming we just thought it was a little further down the road. I speak here of the Global Power Shift. A juxtaposition of Standards Of Living is in the wind. It cannot be stopped now. It is interwoven with the inexorable march of time. Gird your loins. Say goodbye to Hollywood. Teach your children Mandarin.
