Welcome to d blog, also known as Dan's rant. The content herein is essentially
comprised of miscellaneous ramblings and random thoughts on the nature of
contemporary existence.
According to Wikipedia, """A meme (pronounced /ˈmiːm/, rhyming with "cream"[1]) is a postulated unit of cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena. (The etymology of the term relates to the Greek word μιμητισμός (pronounced /mɪmetɪsmos/) for "something imitated".)[2] Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes, in that they self-replicate and respond to selective pressures.[3]
The British scientist Richard Dawkins introduced the word "meme" in The Selfish Gene (1976) as a basis for discussion of evolutionary principles in explaining the spread of ideas and cultural phenomena. Examples of memes given in the book included melodies, catch-phrases, beliefs (notably religious beliefs), clothing fashion, and the technology of building arches.[4]
Meme-theorists[which?] contend that memes evolve by natural selection (in a manner analogous to that of biological evolution) through the processes of variation, mutation, competition, and inheritance influencing an individual entity's reproductive success.[citation needed] Memes spread through the behaviors that they generate in their hosts. Memes that propagate less prolifically may become extinct, while others may survive, spread, and (for better or for worse) mutate. Theorists point out that memes which replicate the most effectively spread best, and some memes may replicate effectively even when they prove detrimental to the welfare of their hosts.[5]
A field of study called memetics[6] arose in the 1990s to explore the concepts and transmission of memes in terms of an evolutionary model. Criticism from a variety of fronts has challenged the notion that scholarship can examine memes empirically. Some commentators question the idea that one can meaningfully categorize culture in terms of discrete units."""
In the end these viral and somewhat subliminal agents of "Mind Control" are catch phrases that become accepted as part of the Zeitgeist and embedded without any questioning in the mind of various populations. It's Not true people! STOP, Plug it in. Turn it on. Hit Enter and THINK for yourself, how can this be true?
It seems like yesterday that my prayer was for an intelligent leader. I had High Hopes for Obama. Now I don't believe that intelligence means so much. At least Im no longer so sure of Barry's Bandwidth Capacity. It's so SAD REally!
The current administration appears to be just as FOS as the previous puppets.
I just have no idea about how to fix our system which is broken and indeed has more systemic failures on a seemingly weekly basis.
The recent "Supreme Court decision that ruled against McCain-Feingold, unleashing unlimited corporate campaign contributions into the political scene. " spells the end of the illusion that our government is citizen controlled. We buy into our government the same way we buy peanut butter. By being exposed to massive amounts of repetitive and frequently aired messages on every medium available. Corporations now have the same rights as individuals even though their loyalty is to the global pursuit of the almighty dollar and not to the integrity of the American Homeland.
Woe unto us as we charge headlong into the Rollerball Era of corporate control of our lives. (As if it weren't already the case!)
